Research

The Department of Linguistics at the University of Alberta is actively involved in a wide range of data-driven linguistic research. Our focus is the empirical study of language through observation, fieldwork, and experimentation. A list and description of the laboratories and research groups within the Department can be found at the "Laboratories" link on the left of this page. Examples of ongoing research projects being conducted in our Department are available at the "Projects" link.

We also have close links with TAPoR (Text Analysis Portal for Research), a collaboration of nearly a dozen Canadian universities to build a centralized gateway to representative texts and sophisticated tools for text analysis.

The Department also encourages graduate students, faculty, and guest contributors to share their research through the on-line University of Alberta Working Papers in Linguistics.
